REINS-STURDIVANT GRIEF RECOVERY PROGRAM

Grief Recovery services are provided to the public from Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home/Scenic Memorials Gardens on a year round basis. A qualified mental health therapist provides follow up services to relatives following the death of a loved one. Monthly Grief Recovery Support Meetings are held at the funeral home.
Families who have lost loved ones are called and invited to the monthly support group meetings. We offer reading materials which provide information and encouragement during the time of grieving. Telephone counseling and reassurance are provided to homebound people who cannot attend group meetings. Efforts are made to help individuals and families balance and focus their energies on making good choices during stressful times. Services are provided in a user-friendly environment.
Monthly Grief Recovery Support Meetings are held on the second Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM in the chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. Educational materials about grief recovery are provided as well as an opportunity to talk about personal and family experiences around the grieving experience. Fellowship while sharing thoughts and feelings with other group members is encouraged. The November meeting is a Holiday Seminar on "Coping with Grief During the Holidays' with special education and a festive buffet held in a public community meeting hall.
Dorothy Beamon, MSW serves as consultant in the grief recovery program. She worked as a family therapist and administrator in the public mental health system for thirty-two years after graduating from Appalachian State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
